Tourniquets save lives

  • An adult can lose 40% of their blood volume after only 3–4 minutes of severe bleeding.

  • 30% of car accidents result in severe bleeding.

  • Tourniquets are effective at stopping blood loss but must be quickly and properly applied.

  • Improper tourniquet application may result in complications.

When applied correctly, a tourniquet applies pressure to a limb and reduces blood flow. A band is placed around a bleeding limb between the injury and the torso, and it is tightened until the bleeding is under control.

A tourniquet can be lifesaving and is an essential component of first aid. In cases when there is extreme bleeding from a limb, tourniquets can help to control blood flow and minimize blood loss. This is especially important in remote areas where advanced medical assistance may take several hours to arrive. There are many necessary precautions to take when using tourniquets, and they should only be used as a last resort.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY MAKES SMART ET UNIQUE

TENSION CONTROL

A tourniquet must completely occlude arterial blood flow. The pressure required to occlude blood flow in a limb increases exponentially with the circumference of a limb. For this reason, significantly more tension is required to occlude the arterial blood flow of a leg than the arterial blood flow of an arm. The Smart ET has a built-in automatic tension limiter that, based on the circumference of the limb that the tourniquet is being applied to, automatically determines the required tension.

NO TRAINING REQUIRED

The Smart ET takes care of the special knowledge required to properly apply a tourniquet by controlling the required tension based on the limb circumference. Simply put it on the person's limb above the wound, tighten, and rotate the BOA mechanism. Stop tightening when you hear a clicking sound, which indicates that proper application tension has been reached.

APPLICATION TIME ALERT

The Smart ET is equipped with an electronic timer that will begin the countdown as soon as the tourniquet is positioned into place and once the dial is no longer being turned. The timer has a built-in LED and speaker to issue visual and audio alerts to the user and medical staff. An alert will happen after the first hour and every 15 minutes thereafter. The Smart ET has a built-in power source, and the alert mechanism is activated automatically when the BOA tightening mechanism is turned.

REUSABLE

The Smart ET is unique because it can be reused if inspected and reset correctly as per instructions by pressing the reset button on the reset mechanism and fully extending the strap to its original length by pulling it out of the locking mechanism.

Advantages
HOW IT WORKS
smart-et-e1.png

1

To begin, put the Smart ET tourniquet on the limb that is bleeding and pull the strap.

smart-et-e2.png

2

To accurately measure the circumference of the limb, start turning the knob on the BOA tightening mechanism until there is no slack left in the strap.

3

Check the circumference gauge and set the dial to the required tension to prevent over or under-tightening

4

By turning the knob, the pressure gets evenly distributed around the limb and stops the bleeding.

5

Each time the knob is turned, the Application Time Alert timer is reset. Once the turning stops, it will count time and issue a visual and audio alert after the first hour and every 15 minutes thereafter.
